Current Work
My scholarship examines the ways identity shapes and is shaped by political division in the United States. From determining access to voting rights and representation, to mitigating the impact of health inequity, to defining the rights and benefits of citizenship, I explore policy questions that are theoretically grounded yet practically relevant. My current book project is entitled Protesting Vulnerability: Race and Pandemic Politics. It provides a comprehensive examination of original public opinion data and activism surrounding the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and racial violence. We argue that both pandemics imperil the lives of communities of color by making them more susceptible to harm sanctioned by the state. Other projects explore inclusive pedagogies, contemporary threats to voting rights, and role of murder victims families in policy debates.
