About
Dr. Seide currently works at the Office of the Surgeon General. She is the Chief Medical Officer tasked with managing the deployment health of the Public Health Service (PHS) Commissioned Corps. Dr. Seide has a passion for mentoring URM students and educating on topics related to minority health and health disparities. As a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University, she trains future Military Physician and Healthcare Leaders at the graduate and undergraduate level. Dr. Seide has conducted research on experiences of URM medical students at USU and ways to create inclusive, anti-racist learning environments. She has spearheaded many DEI initiatives at the University: training faculty on cross cultural mentorship, fostering recruitment of URM students/faculty, ensuring early and sustained exposure to themes surrounding SDOH, and addressing changes in the curriculum to address bias and racism.
Current Work
"1- Leading task force addressing racism and bias within medical school curriculum; working with faculty and student group. Providing in-depth evaluation of basic science and clinical didactics, to include assessment of trainee experience.
2- Formalizing curriculum on historical context of racism in medicine and how it currently impacts healthcare. Educating faculty and students on ways to address race-based bias
3- Serving as a Faculty Advisor to University's chapter of Student National Medical Association- providing formal mentorship to current students underrepresented in medicine.
4- Formal mentor for National mentorship program supporting Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine (URM) premed students on their path to medicine"
