Dr. Lamont D. Simmons is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Salem State University. His professional experience spans child welfare, mental health, and school-based settings. His research program examines the experiences of underrepresented students in social work and higher education and factors contributing to their persistence and academic outcomes. His efforts to address systemic racism are reflected in projects related to anti-racism, diversity, educational equity, inclusion, and social justice. Dr. Simmons promotes student growth through active learning experiences, reflective and reflexive practices, and a healthy balance of challenge and support. Dr. Simmons holds current membership in national social work organizations, serves on numerous committees and has been an appointed member of the Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (under the Council on Social Work Education) since July 1, 2018.
