Dr. Hernandez is a Postdoctoral research associate in the Center for Education, Identity, and Social Justice at USC. Her mixed methods research focuses on students' experience on campus, sense of belonging, issues related to religion and diversity, and students' intersectional identities. Dr. Hernandez's work highlights institutions' legal and moral responsibility to care for their students and ensure academic and psychosocial success. Her latest work examined students sense of belonging, engagement, and diversity within religious student organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Hernandez is a Los Angeles native and graduated from the Rossier School of Education with an M. Ed. in Student Affairs and PhD in Urban Education. She completed her B.A. in Sociology at the University of California Los Angeles.|
Current Work
Dr. Hernandez's scholarship explores students' experience and sense of belonging while in college. Her research considers how students various identities shape their experience on campus. Currently, she is working on expanding her research on students sense of belonging in religious student groups and identity-based groups.
