About
Dr. Diggs earned a BS in physics from Xavier University of Louisiana, MSE degrees in materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering, and a PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Michigan. She has been honored with the National Science Academy Award, the National Physical Sciences Consortium Graduate Fellowship, and as a modern day technology leader with the Black Engineer of the Year Award. In her current work, Dr. Diggs consults on medical device design and regulation; and in her position with the Center for Engineering Diversity & Outreach, focuses on diversity and equity in the academy, serving to increase underrepresented minorities (URM) and women representation in engineering faculty and working with the college's DEI initiatives. In addition, she is a mentor with U-M innovation teams and a GEAR-UP STEM instructor working with budding K-12 scientists and engineers on college readiness.
Current Work
Dr. Digg's work focused on the use of degradable ceramic biomaterials implants for orthopedic tissue engineering applications. Dr. Diggs' current projects focus on: additive manufacturing for orthopedic tissue engineering applications; future faculty development programs; broadening participation of women and URM in engineering faculty; STEM outreach and college access; equity in the classroom
