Ayesha Ghazi-Edwin, MSW '10, is a political social worker with over 10 years' experience in various policy areas, including immigration, labor, healthcare, voting, housing, and disability. Ghazi-Edwin currently serves as the executive director of American Citizens for Justice (ACJ), an Asian American civil rights organization that advocates for immigrants rights and equitability. Ghazi-Edwin teaches courses and conducts research on community engagement, public policy, and organizing.
Current Work
Ghazi-Edwin received a grant from the Center for Research on Learning and Training for her community engaged course, and its commitment to improving the local community through increasing social and economic equitability. Her organization, American Citizens for Justice, was recently declared a Knight's Foundation Detroit Art's Challenge grant recipient, and over the course of the next year, is creating a digital archive of stories by Asian American allies and activists on the legacy of Vincent Chin, identity, diversity, and xenophobia. Ghazi-Edwin additionally serves as a faculty member on the School of Social Work's Political Social Work Certification Program, and assists the school in researching and evaluating its community engagement initiatives, and how to best promote collaboration and increase diversity among its partnerships.
