About
Dr. Cynthia Finelli is professor of electrical engineering and computer science and (by courtesy) education and director of Engineering Education Research at the University of Michigan. Her current research interests include student resistance to active learning, faculty adoption of evidence-based teaching practices, and the impact of technology and innovative pedagogies on student learning and success. Dr. Finelli founded the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2003 and served as its director for 12 years. She is a fellow of the American Society of Engineering Education and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Current Work
Dr. Finelli studies faculty teaching practices, student learning and success outcomes, and the relationship between them. She is currently engaged in research to identify ways to: promote more student-centered teaching practices in the engineering classroom; increase student engagement in the classroom; improve students' sense of belonging and identity in engineering; better promote academic success of students with neurodiversities, and help engineers become better public welfare watchdogs.
