Jade Burns' health service research focuses on innovative approaches using community-engaged research and technology (e.g., social media, mobile apps) to increase access to sexual health services for adolescents at community health centers. Dr. Burns' area of expertise in clinical practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner is adolescent health care, family planning, health promotion, and HIV/STI prevention. Her secondary area of interest is improving nursing practice and training programs in underserved areas.
Current Work
Organization-wide needs assessment among community health centers that will be used to enhance service delivery and reproductive health care for adolescents and young adults accessing care in Detroit. Preliminary mixed-methods study working with Federally Qualified Health Centers in Detroit to identify strategies for improving sexual health and clinic access among adolescent and young adult men living in urban areas Social Media survey to examine clinic services and resources (i.e., professional expertise, providing contraception, etc.) that best promote sexual health resources for young African-American men.
