James M. Ellis, PhD is an assistant research scientist in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan. James completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Washington School of Social Work. He completed an MSW at the University of Michigan School of Social Work and a PhD in higher education at the University of Michigan School of Education in Ann Arbor. During his spare time, James enjoys hiking, birding, playing sports, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Current Work
James' research investigates the education pipeline experiences of racial-ethnic and low-income students. His current scholarship examines the connection between educational interventions and their impact on student academic development and academic behaviors, how peers and adults support student college readiness, and student experiences with racism and discrimination in K-12 and higher education settings.
