About
Malinda Matney is Managing Director at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching. In this capacity, she works with U-M's faculty and academic units on assessment of student learning, evaluation of educational initiatives, the scholarship of teaching and learning, accreditation, and grants supporting these various initiatives. Dr. Matney also teaches in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education.
Current Work
Dr. Matney's work within the college teaching and learning context involves both the assessment of program outcomes and the analysis of trends in student behaviors and expectations over time. Her recent studies have included examinations of undergraduate first year experience, Millennial and Global Generations, social networking for faculty and students, first generation student issues, and climate for students, faculty and staff. She coauthored the 2014 book, The Influence of Fraternity and Sorority Involvement: A Critical Analysis of Research (1996-2013). Dr. Matney is active in the teaching and learning, higher education, collegiate band, and fraternity and sorority communities, and presents frequently in all of these arenas. Dr. Matney’s previous positions include Senior Research Associate for Student Life at the University of Michigan, Research Associate for the National Center for Postsecondary Improvement, Living Center Director at the Kansas City Art Institute, and Assistant to the Director of the Family Learning Center and the "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County, Colorado.
