About
Robin Brewer is an Assistant Professor of Information at the University of Michigan. Her research is at the intersection of social computing and accessibility where she studies how to design meaningful online communities and technologies for older adults and people with vision impairments. Robin received her PhD in technology and social behavior from Northwestern University, an MS in human-centered computing from University of Maryland Baltimore County, and BS in computer science from University of Maryland College Park.
Current Work
While technology access and adoption is growing for people around the world, there are still many who face challenges to accessing the internet, even in the United States. Internet and technology use are important as they provide access to information and resources such as health information, job opportunities, and social relationships. As a human-computer interaction researcher, Dr. Brewer's studies, designs, and develops systems that make information and resources more accessible to underserved communities. Her current body of work covers accessibility and technology use across the lifespan in three different contexts: 1) studying accessible engagement in existing online communities 2) designing new online communities for meaningful engagement, and 3) understanding trust and control in voice interfaces for older adults and people with vision impairments.
