About
Dr. Tazin Daniels is an assistant director at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching at the University of Michigan and holds a doctorate in anthropology. She is an educational developer, consultant and coach who has published on strategies for equitable online teaching and preparing the next generation of inclusive educators. Although her daily work focuses on supporting instructors, her current research agenda seeks to explore the experiences of educational developers of color in order to identify barriers to hiring, retention and promotion. Dr. Daniels strongly believes that this is an important step towards creating an equitable and inclusive future for students, educators and educational developers alike.
Current Work
Dr. Daniels is a trained anthropologist whose qualitative scholarship focuses on promoting equity and inclusion in faculty development programming. Recently, she has been interested in applying her research skills to better understand the experiences of BIPOC educational developers in their work to support faculty. She has been collaborating with Dr. Chandani Patel from New York University through the Professional and Educational Developers Network (PODNetwork) on both of these research agendas with the goals of promoting equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in her field. This includes identifying barriers to entry into our field (e.g., degree requirements, access to mentoring, etc.) and barriers to retention and promotion (e.g., lack of support, poor workplace climate, etc.). This may include institutional surveys, interviews and focus groups with BIPOC faculty and educational developers at different institutions across the country.
