Debra Guckenheimer is a sociologist, diversity and inclusion specialist, dissertation coach, and writer. Previously, she was a research associate at the Clayman Institute at Stanford University, a research associate at the Hadassah Brandeis Institute at Brandeis University, a visiting assistant professor at Bowdoin College, and a postdoctoral research associate with the NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Program at Northeastern University. Her teaching and research experience focuses on social change efforts to reduce inequalities based on race, class, gender, and sexuality. Her work has appeared in Embrace Race, Women's Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, The Feminist Wire, The Handbook of Positive Organizational Scholarship, and Doing Diversity in Higher Education. Her work has been recognized by the American Sociological Association's Race, Class, and Gender section and the National Center for Institutional Diversity at the University of Michigan. She has a PhD in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a BA in politics from Oberlin College.
Current Work
Dr. Guckenheimer teaches online at California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) and is writing two books: 1) on her grandfather's wisdom from watching Hitler come to power in Germany to what's happening in the United States today, 2) on the diversity and inclusion industry. She is developing a program to help professionals become more prepared to challenge inequality at work.
