About
Dr. Lindsay Corneal has lead Li-ion battery repurposing and recycling process development projects and developed curricula concerning materials for energy systems. She is the faculty advisor for the Society of Women Engineers student group at GVSU. She earned a BASc (applied science) in mechanical engineering with a materials option from the University of Windsor (Canada), an MBA from Lawrence Technological University, and a PhD in materials science & engineering from Michigan State University. She also spent six years as a product engineer at DaimlerChrysler (now Chrysler, LLC) where her main responsibility was the power steering system for the Ram truck.
Current Work
Dr. Lindsay Corneal's current research projects include repurposing of used automotive Li-ion batteries in stationary applications. For the used automotive batteries that are not able to be repurposed, recycling methods have been developed to break down the individual cells of the battery modules in order to recover the aluminum and copper foils as well as the active materials within the cells.
