Current Work
In addition to other small projects within the area of multiculturalism and positive psychology, the next two years will be focused on one primary project: Proyecto Mamá. The purpose of Proyecto Mamá is to comprehensively assess the resources and needs within the Milwaukee community regarding perinatal (pregnancy and postpartum) mental health among Latinas. This multi-year project was funded by a Marquette University Women and Girls of Color Grant and is guided by a framework of assets-oriented community assessment (Sharpe et al., 2000). Dr. Lisa Edwards and members of the Culture and Well-Being Research Lab will lead the assessment to identify existing community capacities, as well as needs and barriers regarding perinatal mental health. The ultimate goal of this project is to provide the foundation for future programs and services that will positively impact Latina mothers and their families in Milwaukee.
