Associate Professor Christopher M. Fisher, a principal research fellow at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health, and Society (ARCSHS), works in the areas of sexual and public health. Dr. Fisher's research interests include developing theoretical understandings of sexual literacy using a complex systems approach to pragmatically map the range of influences impacting on sexual health, well-being, and pleasure. He currently serves as the graduate research coordinator for the ARCSHS. Dr. Fisher is also active as a member of the board of directors for the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and on the executive committee of the Australasian Sexual Health Alliance.
Current Work
6th National Survey of Secondary Students and Sexual Health provides surveillance data on the sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours of adolescents in Australia.Adult Sexual Literacy project is exploring and examining the capacity and comfort level of adults in the general population to provide accurate sexual health information to young people. Youth Perceptions of Sexual Health Issues and Services is exploring the views of adolescents on topics such as STIs and unplanned pregnancy as well as preferences for information and service provision.The Complexity of Sex Education is mapping the systems which shape the environments young people engage with and how they impact on sexual literacy.
