Dr. Choi received a PhD in sociology from Yale University in May 2015. He is assistant professor of sociology at the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, Russia starting from September 2015. His dissertation examines various consequences of educational expansion, as an institutional transformation, focusing on its heterogeneous and stratifying effects.
Current Work
Dr. Choi is working on research projects across a few areas of social and educational stratification. First, he continues to work on the social effects of educational (college) expansion, especially on generation transfer and smoking behavior. Second, he is looking into how non-cognitive skills and their importance in educational attainment have evolved in the US. Lastly, he is engaged in projects that explore the (in)significance of educational expansion in the growth of economic inequality.
