Dr. Ceceilia Parnther is an assistant professor in the Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership at St. John's University. In her work, Parnther develops and implements qualitative research designs to explore postsecondary student success policies and outcomes. Her research agenda centers culture and equity and includes mentorship and student success, academic integrity education, and knowledge acquisition/dissemination in higher education. Dr. Parnther's career path as a scholar-practitioner includes roles in academic and student affairs; she has served in leadership and teaching positions in higher education administration for 15 years. Among others, Dr. Parnther's most recent scholarship is in Innovative Higher Education and the Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory, and Practice.
Current Work
Dr. Parnther is currently engaged in research on mentor programs designed to increase access and completion for underrepresented, underprepared, or low-income students in postsecondary education. She is specifically interested in the role of institutional mentorship on the outcomes of low income first year students receiving varying levels of financial aid. To do this, her research includes a national sample of place-based scholarship recipients. Ultimately, she aims to increase student support and success. Student engagement is a positive indicator of student success. Throughout her work, she recognizes the importance of building confidence and creating a community of learners. Dr. Parnther's research includes student success and academic integrity education from an equity lens. She seeks to challenge biased processes and move beyond punitive actions to engage an institutional community to value and respect independent work in culturally relevant ways.
