Current Work
Dr. Dumas’ research addresses the effects of employees’ personal, non-work related roles and identities on their experiences and behaviors at work. Comprehensively, her studies consider personal-professional boundary management as a vehicle for reconciling dissimilarities between work and non-work domains, shaping workplace status perceptions, juggling work and family role responsibilities and enhancing work engagement. Her work considers how employees manage status perceptions associated with being racially dissimilar from their colleagues through strategic self-disclosure and social integration, thus shedding light on the coping mechanisms of demographic minorities in organizations. Also consistent with the theme of understanding how employees navigate the challenges of organizational life, she studies the experiences and choices of employees who feel that their values differ from those of their colleagues. Her work also explores how employees' family structures affect their work.
