Current Work
Dr. Dobbs' research is motivated by a fundamental question: in an increasingly global world, how are the boundaries of political representation being redefined? She explores these shifting dynamics at the local, national, and transnational level, with a primary focus on Europe. Her solo work explores the dynamics of political representation and inclusion in countries where immigration is a relatively new phenomenon. Her current book project asks why in some cases political elites in these "new destinations" seek to widen pathways to political participation for new immigrants, while in other cases they seek to restrict or close these pathways. A second collaborative project examines access to social protection in a world of mass migration, with a particular focus on how transnational and/or sub-national dynamics are reshaping the role of the state as a key provider of social welfare.
