Denia Garcia is assistant professor of public affairs at the La Follette School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received a PhD in sociology from Princeton University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society (CRRES) at Indiana University.
Current Work
Garcia's research focuses on race/ethnicity, urban sociology, organizations, and social policy. Her work examines the role of space and organizations in shaping how inequalities are experienced and reproduced. She is currently writing an ethnography of a multiethnic neighborhood in Chicago, which speaks to ongoing debates about the consequences of ethnic/racial diversity for social relations and civic participation. In other research, she examines participatory budgeting and skin color and racial inequalities in the United States and Latin America.
