Román Liera, PhD is an assistant professor at Montclair State University. He transferred from Los Angeles Pierce College to San Diego State University where he received his BA in Psychology and a minor in counseling and social change. He received his MA from Teachers College, Columbia University and his PhD from the University of Southern California.
Current Work
Dr. Liera designed his research program to study racial equity and organizational change in Higher Education. Specifically, he draws on qualitative research methods to understand the ways organizational processes, norms, and practices perpetuate racial inequity. His scholarship is anchored by a theoretical understanding of university and college campuses as racialized organizations with cultures and structures that constrain administrators and faculty efforts to advance racial equity.
