Mickey's research broadly covers sociology of education, race/ethnicity, social inequality, demography, assortative mating, sociology of law, and specializes in affirmative action bans. He also applies a broad range of methodological approaches in his work: difference in differences, triple differencing, hierarchical modeling, matching techniques, regression decomposition, event history modeling, and qualitative techniques such as qualitative comparative analysis, and content analysis.
Current Work
Mickey's work focuses on the causal impacts of affirmative action bans. He studes intended outcomes such as the reduced share of underrepresented minority students in higher education, but also unintended consequences such as the decline in interracial marriage.
