About
Katta Spiel is a Hertha-Firnberg Scholar at the HCI Group of the Department of Visual Computing and Human-Centered Technology at TU Wien and an adjunct lecturer for Methods in Gender Studies at the University of Vienna. Katta's work largely focus on notions of Gender and Disability, predominantly through critical participatory research and design. To that effect, they currently investigate how we might think and design from a starting point of marginalised bodies in interaction design.
Current Work
In a participatory design endeavour together with people outside of the scope of traditional body focused devices and applications, Katta plans to find out alternatives to the normative design currently available devices embody. One example is a collaborative community-based participatory project mapping out the scope of racialised micro-aggressions in the city of Vienna. As a critical design intervention, the project raises practical questions about the normative assumptions built into commercial technologies and serves as a reflection for developers and researchers.
