About
David H. Chae, ScD, MA, holds a named associate professorship in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Auburn University. He is also the director of the Center for Health Ecology and Equity Research (CHEER). David studies the effects of social hazards tied to race on risk factors for accelerated biological aging. As part of this work, he investigates the interplay between social context, developmental period, behavior, and biology, in relation to susceptibility to and progression of diseases. David also studies how racism at the area-level impacts health and mortality.
Current Work
David is conducting research on psychobiological and behavioral mechanisms linking racism-related stress and chronic disease risk. As part of this work, he examines several physiologic outcomes and indicators of biologic dysregulation, including inflammatory markers and leukocyte telomere length (LTL), a novel indicator of aging at the cellular level. He has a history of leading externally funded research projects. Currently, David is the principal investigator of research project funded by the National Institutes of Health on the social causes underlying accelerated disease progression and severity among African American women with systemic lupus erythematosus.
