A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, David Nguyen is an assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). David combines his academic and professional expertise and concentrates his research in higher education policy, specifically in diversity in higher education, issues of ethics, governance, and leadership, and law and policy implications in higher education as it pertains to marginalized student populations. He earned his bachelor of science (BS) in secondary education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Thereafter, he obtained his doctor of jurisprudence (JD) from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law and his master of business administration (MBA) from the IU Kelley School of Business. As a recipient of the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship, David earned his master of advanced legal studies (LL.M. adv.) from Leiden University in Leiden, the Netherlands. David earned his PhD in higher education policy studies at Indiana University. Prior to academia, David worked in law firms, the federal courts, and state government. From 2010-2015, David served as director of Disaster Legal Services, a partnership program between the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the American Bar Association (ABA). David is admitted to practice law in the states of Indiana and North Dakota and their respective federal district courts.
Current Work
David is currently an equity fellow for the Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center where he uses his interdisciplinary law and education expertise to investigate issues of educational equity in the P-20 pipeline. Areas of specific investigation include undocumented student educational access, affirmative action, and law and policy constraints for transgender students.
