About
Dr. Erika Katzman is a registered occupational therapist and assistant professor in the disability studies program at King's University College (Western University, Canada). Her teaching and research aim to instigate change by helping people to find solidarity in shared and parallel experiences of marginality and oppression. Informed by critical feminist and disability studies, her work identifies invisible forms of labor performed by marginalized people and groups that are not typically thought of or valued as 'real' work. Her research also explores applications for disability studies perspectives in health professional education.
Current Work
Writing from her perspective as a personal care attendant, Dr. Katzman researches care work and caring relationships with an eye to systems of oppression that marginalize disabled people and their (often female/femme, low income, immigrant and/or person of colour) care workers. Her current research projects explore the ways health care workers are taught to understand disability.
