Dr. Elena Izaksonas is an assistant professor in the Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University. Her PhD is from the University of Minnesota, and her MSW is from the University of Michigan. She has worked at Latinx serving agencies in the Upper Midwest, including over 25 years as a social worker in public social welfare. Dr. Izaksonas has volunteered her services in numerous community agencies and provided expert testimony before legislative bodies. Research interests include Latinx high school education outcomes, immigration, and migrant farmworker policy.
Current Work
Dr. Izaksonas' current work is focused on shifting student perspectives on immigration. She has conducted a study of campus racial climate in a predominantly white institution (PWI). Her dissertation, "Latino Students' Expectations of School Success: Do School Supports Matter?" won the 2012 Outstanding Dissertation Award at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work.
