Dierdre Shires is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Michigan State University. Prior to joining the faculty at MSU, she spent more than eight years at the Henry Ford Health System managing large-scale NIH and CDC-funded survey and evaluation studies in the Center for Health Policy and Health Services Research. Prior to that, she served as the health services coordinator for a gay and lesbian health center in metropolitan Detroit.
Current Work
Dr. Shires' current research centers around healthcare providers' barriers to treating transgender patients and how access and quality of care for transgender people can be improved. Other areas of focus include cancer care for LGBTQ individuals and mental health services research.
