Dr. Guerrant is currently an assistant professor of applied psychology at the State University of New York (SUNY) Cobleskill. She earned her PhD in Applied Social and Community Psychology from North Carolina State University. Her primary areas of interest center around issues of diversity (particularly LGBTQ+, immigrant, and racial/ethnic), community engagement, and health equity. Dr. Guerrant applies these interests through active research, community advocacy, and professional service. She also enjoys teaching and integrating conversations surrounding diversity, equity, and social justice within a variety of courses, especially those related to health and community psychology.
Current Work
Generally speaking, Dr. Guerrant's research centers around intersectionality and exploring how gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic identity, and immigration work together to uniquely shape physical and mental health. Her early scholarship focused on understanding how immigration experiences influence psychological well-being for LGBTQ+ identified immigrants to the United States. Dr. Guerrant's more recent scholarship has focused on health equity, particularly the role of communication in healthcare settings and previous experiences in shaping healthcare-seeking behaviors. Her current work seeks to understand how communication, prior experiences, and health literacy (particularly related to sexual health) shape things like breast and gynecological cancer screenings, STI ,ing, and safe sexual practices for Latinx cisgender women.
