Dr. Rahwa Haile is an Associate Professor in the department of Public Health at the State the University of New York at Old Westbury. Her scholarly work is situated in the field of social epidemiology, and centers around the ways in which anti-Black racisms shape population health.
Current Work
Dr. Haile's current project (in collaboration with Dr. Tawandra Rowell-Cunsolo and Ms. Anthonine Pierre) uses the tools of community organizing, qualitative research and survey research in order to understand the ways in which the carceral state harms Central Brooklyn Black communities and shapes Central Brooklyn Black health inequities. In Dr. Haile's on words, "We are using our research process and findings in order to help build community power and to bolster local campaigns to improve Black health through investment in the social determinants of health."
