About
Shawn M. Bediako is Director of the Office of Education within the NHLBI Division of Intramural Research at the National Institutes of Health, where he and his team oversee the recruitment, retention, and scholarly development activities of trainees within the intramural labs. Current Work
Dr. Bediako's research examines the ways in which stigma impacts the illness experience of adults living with sickle cell disease, the world's most common blood disorder. His current program of research uses intensive longitudinal methods to: (1) investigate causal associations between daily changes in stigma and its influence on sickle cell pain; and (2) evaluate epigenetic changes that occur from repeated stigmatization.
