About
Dr. Andrea Hunt is an associate professor of sociology and family studies and the founding director of the Mitchell-West Center for Social Inclusion at the University of North Alabama. Her work focuses on youth, families, and community development. She is involved in Title IX efforts at the University of Northern Alabama and is a violence prevention educator. She works with juvenile detention centers and assists with diversion programming. She has led workshops on teaching about inequality and critical media literacy.
Current Work
Dr. Hunt's current research is focused on three areas. First, she is continuing to work on the development of Title IX and inclusion programming in higher education and the use of campus climate surveys to assess campus needs. Her other research addresses the experiences of students with disabilities in higher education and how their experiences are shaped by race, class, gender, and sexual identity. Lastly, her most current research examines the experiences of LGBTQ teachers trained in elementary and secondary education programs in the southern United States.
