Victor Ray is an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. His academic work examines race and gender discrimination in organizations and has been published in the Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Sociological Theory, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, The Journal of Marriage and Family and Contexts. His commentary has appeared at The Washington Post, Newsweek, Boston Review, and Gawker. He is the editor of "Conditionally Accepted," an Inside Higher Ed career advice column for marginalized academics.
Current Work
Dr. Ray's research focuses on race and ethnicity in the United States. His recent work examines ideas about racial progress and how sociologists assess, measure, and promote the idea that things are always getting better. Dr. Ray's second line of research examines race and organizations.
