Munyane Mophosho currently works at the University of the Witwatersrand in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, where she is involved in teaching courses on augmentative and alternative communication & academic service learning.Munyane conducts clinical and research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her key responsibilities include teaching and supervision of clinical and research activities; course co-ordination. Prior to this Munyane worked as a speech and hearing therapist in a public hospital and, a school for children with cerebral palsy.
Current Work
In 2018, Munyane sole-authored paper on training of Speech and hearing professional was accepted for publication in AJHPE, titled “Speech-language therapy consultation practices in multilingual and multicultural health care contexts: thoughts about current training in South Africa”. This viewpoint paper was emphasizing that academic curricula and the clinical practice of speech-language and audiology students and professionals should transform the way in which they apply theoretical knowledge when treating speech and hearing disorders in a multilingual and multicultural context.In addition, a paper she co-authored with a colleague on transformation of the profession was publishes in the SAJCD, Khoza-Shangase, K. & Mophosho, M. (2018). Language and culture in Speech-Language and Hearing Professions in South Africa: The dangers of a single story. The viewpoint paper makes recommendations about what needs to happen within the SLH professions in South Africa in order to stay safe from the dangers of a single story. This paper invited debate in order to allow for constructive engagement with this complex issue within the South African SLH professions.
