Dr. Overton-Adkins is a faculty member in the Interdisciplinary PhD Program at Union Institute and University and continues to work with the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good at the University of Michigan as a clinical faculty member in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. She is a former college administrator, serving as vice president and provost, dean, and department chair. Dr. Overton-Adkins also spent some time at a large foundation.

Dr. Overton-Adkins is currently working on issues of diversity and inclusion in higher education, leadership and higher education, minority serving institutions, and women and higher education.
