About
Dr. Alex C. Lange is an assistant professor of higher education in the School of Education at Colorado State University. They study students minoritized by race, gender, sexuality, and ability, as well as the social forces that marginalize them during college. Their largest, ongoing project is a national, longitudinal study of transgender college students' journeys through undergraduate education. This work examines how transgender students enter into, develop within, and exit from higher education. Some of Dr. Lange's recent projects and collaborations include how LGBTQ+ students thrive in college, considerations for critical approaches to college student development, and the in/visibility of race and racism in LGBTQ higher education scholarship. Before their work at CSU, Alex worked in various higher education units, including LGBTQ student services, intercultural education, student affairs operations, residence life, leadership programs, and summer bridge programs.
Current Work
Dr. Lange studies how colleges and universities work through the experiences of college students, primarily those who identify as LGBTQ+. Their latest project is a long-term national study of transgender college students and their campus and post-graduate experiences. Specifically, Dr. Lange has examined how transgender students choose where and how to go to college, the ways they pay for their education, and how higher education provides potential pathways for identity exploration. Additionally, they have also studied the ways students who idenitfy as People of Color and or as a member of the LGBTQ+ community engage in activism on and off campus.
