Banibrata Mahanta is Professor of English at Banaras Hindu University, India. His areas of interest include Indian writing in English, Indian nationalist thought, disability studies, and translation. His recent works include the edited volume English Studies in India: Contemporary and Evolving Paradigms (Springer 2019) and an English translation of the Hindi novel Lavanya Devi (Orient Blackswan, 2024) for which he was awarded the prestigious PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant (PEN America) in 2021.
Current Work
Banibrata Mahanta is working in the area of disability rights and disability studies. He has authored a monograph titled Disability Studies: An Introduction (2017). Besides exploring various aspects of disability in India in his writings and talks, he also conducts sensitization workshops across the country on disability issues, especially disability-based marginalization in academia.
