Olawale Yemisi is currently a Lecturer at the Department of History, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds a B.A. in History and International Studies from Osun State Univerisity, Osogbo and M.A. Degree in History and International Relations from University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He is currently a Doctoral Student at the Department of History, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Olawale is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), Osogbo, Nigeria; Fellow, Institute for Research and Policy Integration in Africa (IRPIA); Member Diversity Scholars Network, National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID), University of Michigan (U-M). Olawale has a particular interest in African history, and his research intersects topics such as Mobility and Deportation Studies, Socio-Cultural History, and Africa's International Relations. Current Work
My research interests intersect themes such as Nigeria's History, Migration and Deportation History, Social and Economic History, and International Relations. I use oral, written and archival sources to interrogate the changes and (dis) continuities in African History. Therefore, my research has consistently focused on identifying problems, changes and continuities. My master's dissertation is a pioneering effort that explores and contributes to the global and local (glocal) discourse on mobility and deportation history, specifically in an ‘African context’ and from Global South Perspective. The research is principally centred on Ogbomoso, South Western Nigeria. Ogbomoso, during the colonial years, witnessed a population movement to Gold Coast (Ghana). However, the Alien Compliance Order under Dr. K.A. Busia truncated the migratory project. However, despite the implication of the deportation exercise, deportees contributed to the growth and development of the town.
