About
Dr. Donovan Colquitt is an Inclusive Innovation Researcher for education
organizations and Edtech startups. Much of his expertise and interests relate to using qualitative methods to study topics
concerning college access, student success, youth development, STEM + entrepreneurship education, and advocacy for
minoritized populations. His master’s thesis and dissertation were created and completed within 2.5 years (from 2019-2021), during
the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to earning a Ph.D in engineering education in 2021, he earned his M.S. in technology, leadership,
& innovation (specializing in STEM education leadership) from Purdue University and a B.S.E. in mechanical engineering
(minoring in sustainable engineering) from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He also worked as an Applications
Engineer at Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology in Brighton, MI, where he Served Fortune 500 customers through training,
application support, and resolving technical issues.
Current Work
Dr. Colquitt has researched the experiences of Black engineering scholars preparing for and
navigating historically white institutions and examining how urban entrepreneurship exposure programs can enable
minoritized youth to leverage their cultural capital while creating an environment that affirms their inherent strengths and
cultural identity. He seeks to engage in social science research at the intersection of social justice, power, and technology.
