About
Dr. Case is a social psychologist by training and applies critical race theory, feminist theory, queer theory, and intersectional theory to her teaching, research, service, and outreach. Her mixed-methods scholarship examines interventions to increase action for change through understanding of intersectionality, systemic oppression, privilege, and policy. In addition, she investigates how intersectional social justice academics and allies contribute to intentional creation of inclusive spaces within educational, workplace, and community settings. Her pedagogical scholarship, including three books, addresses inclusive teaching practices across all disciplines with special attention to anti-racist and social justice pedagogies. Dr. Case is a tenured Professor of Psychology, as well as affiliate Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, at Virginia Commonwealth University. At VCU, she previously served as Director of Faculty Success (2019-2023) in the Office of the Provost.
Current Work
My work focuses on making educational spaces and workplaces more welcoming and inclusive. My goal is to increase the number of allies taking action for social justice. For example, how do we motivate more white people to take concrete actions to support the Black Lives Matter movement? If we can answer questions like this one, we can work together across groups to move justice forward for all.
