Mo Torres is a historical sociologist interested in urban political economy, the sociology of race/racism, theories of race and class, and the politics of knowledge production. He is a postdoctoral fellow in the Michigan Society of Fellows and an assistant professor of sociology and public policy at the University of Michigan. He holds a PhD in sociology from Harvard University, a master’s in public policy from the University of Michigan, and an AB in history and Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Davis. He is a first-generation college graduate from a working-class community, and a former Detroit Public Schools teacher.
Current Work
Dr. Torres's current book project uses mixed and historical methods to explore the politics of post-industrial decline and the production of urban austerity in Michigan from the 1970s to the present.
