Current Work
My scholarship is grounded in equitable access for black students journey to degree completion and their enrollment at 4-year Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Predominately White Institutions. Research and data has suggests that black students do not acquire their 4-year degree based upon numerous of factors that prohibits their retention and persistence at these institutions. Black students in some cases, can be identified as "First-Generation" the first in their families to attend college. The challenge of attending college and not having a family that is familiar with the collegiate process can often lend itself as a barrier. My scholarship connects with black students through interviews that attend the aforementioned institutions, to learn about their challenges and identify the supports needed to increase degree completion rates among black students. My upcoming projects is inclusive of recently submitted educational research grants that support my scholarship.
