Dr. Christopher M. Reber has devoted his entire 40+ year career to higher education. On July 1, 2018, he became the eighth president of Hudson County Community College (HCCC) in Jersey City, NJ. HCCC serves more than 20,000 credit and noncredit students and 1,000 employees annually on three urban campuses near New York City. Dr. Reber is leading the College's engagement in partnerships that support life-changing opportunities for students and the community. He is committed to transparency and the full participation of students, faculty, staff and community members in the life of the College. His leadership priorities include student success; and diversity, equity, and inclusion. He leads for outcomes that have attracted statewide and national recognition. Dr. Reber previously served as President of Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) near Pittsburgh, PA; and in various leadership roles at Clarion University (PA), Penn State University, and Lakeland Community College (OH).
Current Work
Dr. Reber leads applied research at Hudson County Community College, an Achieving the Dream Leader College, to measure the impact of programs and interventions designed to remove barriers to degree completion and support the achievement of students' goals, including many students from traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized backgrounds and the first in their families to pursue higher education. He also leads programs designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas, including the removal of equity gaps; the recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds; and the achievement of their goals. He supports the collection, disaggregation, and analysis of data to measure the return on investment of these initiatives, and participates locally, regionally, and nationally in the sharing of approaches and results through written articles, book chapters, and in presentations at national meetings and beyond.
