Gabriella (Gabby) Epshteyn MA, is a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at the University of Rhode Island (URI). Gabby holds a B.A. in psychology from the City University of New York, Baruch College (2018) and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College (2021). Gabby currently serves as a Co-Investigator on a multi-site randomized clinical trial of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Justice-Involved Veterans (DBT-J). Prior to coming to URI, Gabby served as the Research Manager of the Transitioning Service Member / Veteran And Suicide Prevention Center (TASC), as well as in other research roles across Mount Sinai Health System. Gabby continues to conduct research with the TASC team as well as maintaining a research affiliate role with the Yale School Of Medicine, Department Of Psychiatry and the STRESS (Study of Trauma, Risk-taking, Emotions, and Stress Symptoms) Lab, University of Rhode Island.
Current Work
Gabby’s research focuses on themes of suicide, trauma, substance use, personality disorders. She is particularly interested in adapting suicide prevention mindfulness based interventions for high-risk, high-need underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations including justice involved individuals, active duty service members/Veterans, and racial/ethnic minority groups.
Since 2020, Gabby’s research in part has contributed to the development of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Justice-Involved Veterans, a transdiagnostic intervention designed to support Veterans with current/recent legal involvement which has expanded to a multi-site randomized clinical trial. Gabby also serves as an evaluator in the Westchester Veterans/Drug Treatment Courts as well as servin in various collaboration roles in national and local suicide prevention initiatives such as the ETS Sponsorship Program, and the Overwatch Project.
