Current Work
James Huynh's scholarship spans various fields, including LGBTQ health equity, Asian American and Vietnamese American studies, social movement studies, and queer and feminist studies. He goes beyond traditional public health research by collaborating with marginalized communities to explore how they navigate life amidst oppressive societal conditions. Rather than solely focusing on morbidity and mortality rates, Dr. Huynh emphasizes the factors that contribute to well-being and survival. Drawing inspiration from women of color feminisms and Black feminisms, he reframes LGBTQ health equity research to center on the determinants of life rather than death. By bringing queer and feminist theoretical perspectives into public health, Dr. Huynh investigates how LGBTQ communities of color maintain their everyday lives and well-being in the face of injustice. Through his work, he aims to shed light on the marginalized people's activism and its implications for health policy.
