Felicia M. Mitchell is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She is committed to social justice for all oppressed, marginalized, and minoritized peoples and advocates for the advancement of environmental and health equity in Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Mitchell’s primary research examines environmental change impacts related to water and their effects on Indigenous communities' health and well-being. Mitchell's work seeks to promote public and policy responsiveness to the social and anthropological dimensions of environmental change.
Mitchell's secondary line of scholarship focuses on advancing social work education through critical reflection and engagement that seeks to dismantle anti-Black sentiments and settler-colonial standards in academia.
Current Work
Felicia M. Mitchell is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She's passionate about social justice and making sure everyone, especially those who are oppressed or marginalized, receives fair treatment. She's dedicated to improving the environment and health in communities of color. Her main research looks at how changes in the environment, especially water, affect the health and well-being of Indigenous communities. She also works on projects to help people and policies better understand and respond to the social and cultural aspects of these changes.
Additionally, she's focused on making social work education more inclusive and fair by challenging biases against BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities and questioning old ways of doing things in academia.
