Nicolaus Espitia, MSW, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of social work at Oakland University. He earned his Ph.D. in the joint social work and sociology program at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on better understanding how undocumented populations make sense of political participation and the role of policy plays in affecting how they engage in their communities. Before completing his Ph.D., he completed his MSW and BA at the University of Michigan.
Current Work
Broadly my work focuses on how policy impacts how undocumented populations make sense of their social and political environments. Specifically, I examine how policy can used to create engagement, grant access, and provide the resources necessary for folks to thrive.
