DR. BRITTANY DEVIES (she/her) serves as the Program Manager for Leadership Studies and Development at the University of Maryland, College Park, focusing on academic and co-curricular leadership education initiatives. She is an affiliate graduate faculty member at UMD within the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Florida State University, teaching in their undergraduate leadership studies certificate. She has authored and coauthored more than 30 books, book chapters, and journal articles on leadership education and learning. She received her Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University, her M.S. in Higher Education from Florida State University, and her B.S.Ed. in Early and Middle Childhood Studies with a minor in Leadership Studies from The Ohio State University.
Current Work
Dr. Devies's research interests include the intersections of gender and leadership identity development, culturally relevant leadership learning, the experiences of women in higher education, institutional mission statements and their operationalization, and leadership observation as a method of leadership learning. She has authored and coauthored more than 30 book chapters and journal articles on leadership education and learning. She served as a co-editor for Rooted and Radiant: Women’s Narratives of Leadership and a forthcoming book, Committing to Action: Socially Just Leadership Education. She also co-authored a forthcoming book, Foundations of Leadership: Principles, Practice, and Progress. During the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years, she served as the co-host of the NASPA Leadership podcast, which sought to make leadership scholarship more accessible to practioners. She continues to publish in a variety of outlets, focusing on making scholarship more widely accessible.
