Dr. Yong Zeng is an assistant professor at the School of Education at Lake Superior State University, Michigan. With a Ph.D. in Literacy, Culture, and Language and extensive experience in literacy instruction, Dr. Zeng teaches undergraduate courses in literacy and develops curricula for teacher education programs. His research interests include digital literacy, educational technology, and justice-oriented literacy practices. A committed educator, Dr. Zeng collaborates with local schools to coordinate student apprenticeships and supports the CAEP accreditation process through data collection and analysis. His scholarly work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and he has presented at prominent academic conferences. Dr. Zeng also holds a Higher Education Teaching Certificate in Chinese Language and Literacy.
Current Work
Dr. Yong Zeng’s scholarship centers on literacy development, particularly how digital tools can support language learning and literacy for diverse student populations. His research examines the impact of digital and game-based learning environments on students’ motivation and achievement, especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings. Dr. Zeng is also dedicated to exploring justice-oriented and equity-focused literacies, which aim to ensure inclusive, culturally responsive education for all students. His current projects include studies on EFL vocabulary acquisition through mobile games, examining how competitive elements affect learning outcomes, and collaborative research on family literacy practices in urban communities. Through these efforts, Dr. Zeng aims to inform and advance teaching practices that support equity and access, ultimately preparing educators to address the diverse literacy needs of their students effectively.
